david o’reilly: please say something.

My brain just exploded.

I’ve been following David O’Reilly’s compression work (highlighted in my post on Datamoshing – a term which O’Reilly himself openly despises – a little while ago), but his recent short “Please Say Something” just completely blew me away. Described as “A troubled relationship between a Cat and Mouse set in the distant Future”, I have never seen anything quite like this before. It’s so digital, and yet so human; an incredible blend of skill and story. I totally forgot where I was while I watched it. Absolutely engrossing.

jempaur + genki ito: clarte.

I loves me some Jemapur and have been blogging them for a while. Check out their crazy good vids for “Maledict Car” and “AANAATT.”

The awesomeness continues with the vid for their latest track, “Clarte.” Directed by Genki Ito, it’s inspired by “nuclear fusion in the micro world, matching poetic animation to a heavy-hitting track.”

sebastian lange: flickermood 2.0.

Created by German designer Sebastian Lange and My Name Was God (the interactive agency, not the deity),”Flickermood 2.0″ is described by Lange as “The next level of this experimental typographic orgy.” Like a combination of Will Rogers and R. Kelly, I’ve never met an orgy I didn’t like. And this one has typography. Really, what more do you need to know…?

dan black + chic & artistic: alone.

Yes please. Videos like this make me feel like a total hipster die hard, but I loves me some primary colours and post its and striped cardigans. Plus, at one point he vomits an old skool audio tape; you can’t not love it. Directed by Chic & Artistic for Dan Black.

bruce branit: world builder.

It gives me hope and joy that for every “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” or movie that inexplicably casts Paris Hilton there is also a true artist like Bruce Branit. Best known for directing “405″, Branit shot “World Builder” in just one day and then spent two years in post production, slowly creating one of the most awe-inspiring and emotionally honest uses of VFX I’ve ever seen. The result is astonishingly beautiful.

Do yourself a favour. Find a quiet place and take 9 minutes out of your life to watch this.
